Obituary of John Vincent Antku

John Vincent Antku, on June 14, 2010, at the age of 97. A long time resident of Hastings-on-Hudson and recently Salem Hills Nursing Center, John was the husband of the late Helen Poli Antku and the brother of the late Charles Antku, Yolanda Maguire and Irene Warga. John was an outstanding athlete, and as a young man, he excelled in many sports going on to play professional baseball for a major league farm team. He was inducted into the Hastings High School Hall of Fame for his outstanding career. Later in life John took up golf, and soon his home was filled with trophies. John was probably best known for his many years as a coach to the many little league players in Hastings. John served his country in the Second World War as a merchant marine seaman. John loved to dress to the nines, and with Helen he enjoyed his Manhattans at Papa John's, the Saw Pit and Sam's in Dobbs Ferry. John Antku was an athlete, a coach, a mentor and a gentleman and as fine a man and uncle as anyone could ever know. He is survived by sister-in-law, Gerri Antku, nephews, Charles and Gary Antku and Bruce Reynolds and his wife, Dolores. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Salem Hills staff for making him part of their family and seeing to his exceptional care. Funeral services Friday, June 18, at 11 a.m. Hastings Funeral Home, 15 Spring Street, Hastings-on-Hudson. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
