Jane L.Stewart - Mt.Kisco Historian
A life-long resident of Mt.Kisco,Jane died peacefully at Calvary Hospital on August 5, 2010. Born November 6,1928 to the late New Castle Supervisor Robert B.Stewart,Sr.and Margaret Hughes Stewart. Sister of William A.Stewart,Sr.(Joan) and predeceased by her brother,Robert B.Stewart,Jr.(Fran).Also survived by many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews,and by her dear friend Sr.Marguerite Donovan,CSJ.
A graduate of Mt.Kisco High School,and Syracuse University with a B.S. in Nursing and
M.S. in Nursing Education.Her nursing career began in the operating room of Syracuse
University Hospital,and continued at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was Director of
Nursing at Northern Westchester Hospital and Administrator of the Swiss Home in
Mt.Kisco.
In her retirement she was employed by the Mt.Kisco Library,enriching her love of books.
A daily communicant of St.Francis of Assisi Church in Mt.Kisco,where she was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers.Jane was a longtime teacher in the Religious Education program : a lector: a prior member of the Parish Council, and a current member of the Contemporary Choir.
The co-author of three religious books.
Jane became the Mt.Kisco Historian,and President of the Mt.Kisco Historical Society,and was instrumental in the current refurbishing of the Old School House on Moore Ave. in Mt.Kisco.
Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Oelker - Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home 262 East Main St. Mt. Kisco, NY. Funeral mass Monday 10 AM St. Francis of Assisi Church. Interment St. Francis Cemetery.
