My dear friend, Steve,
The world is a much colder place today, and there is a hole in each of us which can never again be filled.
Yet the warmth you spread throughout your life--and all of ours--will always be with us.
The way you brought so many of us disparate elements together, from so many different directions, was absolutely amazing; we will always remember the great times you gave us.
As you moved up the ranks throughout your career, the way you always stood by, and never forgot, your friends, regardless of their social status or how long ago you met them, was always a testament to how real and complete a person you were.
The way you gave to each of us, always offering a helping hand--seeing what we needed, giving it freely, asking nothing in return--you were the genuine article.
The arc of your interests was so very wide, encompassing the arts, sports, business, the great outdoors, and so many other things, you were truly a Renaissance Man.
Each of us will remember you in our own way, for you touched each of us in a very unique and special way.
We are all thankful that you came into and enriched our lives.
There will never be another like you, Steve.

All of us at SPARTA extend our deepest sympathy to Steve's family and friends. Like all of you, we consider ourselves very fortunate to have known Steve and experience his zest for life. He was a true gentleman and professional and always spoke so very fondly and proudly of his family. His generosity is certainly a trait that will long be remembered and we are grateful for the opportunity to honor Steve's memory with a donation to St. Baldrick's Foundation.
Respectfully,
Steve's friends at SPARTA Insurance

I was so saddened to hear of Stephen's tragic passing. He and I were roommates for a year at Stony Brook and, although we saw each other infrequently over the years, each time we spoke it was like being back in the dorm room again. I will always recall his kindness, generosity and quick wit,and his love of literature and philosophy. We spent many late nights debating Dante and Sartre over a beer (or two). He had an unusually inquisitive mind, always thirsting for ideas and knowledge.
My condolences to his family and close friends. He was a good man.
Love
Michael

My deepest sympathies to the entire Calascione family for your loss. My sadness and disbelief cannot be understated. When I first met Steve when I joined Gerling, our relationship was a traditional boss/employee relationship. Quickly, however, Steve became much more to me, he became a mentor, a confidante, a great friend and in many ways , a big brother. His kindness and generosity with people was rare. Steve treated everyone as a friend and always with respect. He gave his time for noble causes and never thought twice about it. His zest for life and jovial spirit will live within me forever. While I am sad today for the loss of my good friend and big brother, I can smile and know he is in a better place. Rest in peace my friend.
