Obituary of John C. Puchir

PUCHIR, John C. of Yonkers passed away peacefully on February 24, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 93. Born in Yonkers in 1924, John graduated Roosevelt High School and then joined the Army Air Corps branch of the Service in 1943. He flew 30 combat missions in World War II as a top turret gunner in a B24 Liberator, as part of the decorated 8th Air Force 392nd bomber group. After the war John returned to Yonkers to marry his true love Jane Gatto and achieved the rank of Captain of the Westchester County Parkway Police retiring in 1976. For ten years following he was the head of security for Technicon Corporation in Tarrytown. John enjoyed gardening, speed skating and golf. He was an active member of the Catholic Slovak Club, American Legion Bajart Post and the Yonkers VFW Post 1666. John was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially when they went on vacation to Wildwood Crest for many reunions. John was the loving husband of Jane for more than 70 years, father of Steven and Leanne Puchir of Valhalla and father of Susan Puchir of Dobbs Ferry. Dear grandfather of Matthew and Jennifer. Beloved younger brother of his predeceased siblings May, Mike, Helen and George. John was loved and admired by many and will be greatly missed. The family will have services at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 499 Yonkers Ave, Yonkers 2-4pm and 6-9pm on Tuesday February 27th followed by a funeral service at 11am on Wednesday February 28th. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Yonkers.
