To the Crespo family and friends...
I first want to say I am truly and deeply sorry for your loss. I was a former student of Mr.Crespo last school year (2017-18). He was one of the only people who cared about my feelings and always asked if I was okay. That little question always made me feel that someone finally cared about me when I had no one. He always stood out the most from other teachers because he treated his students with great respect and always did nice gestures. For example he always let us go upstairs to eat lunch and watch movies like Nacho Libre. Even when I made mistakes like take my phone out he wouldn't make a big deal he would just tell me to put it away. I also loved how I used to pass by his class room and say hi give him a high-five and tell him that was where I used to sit. Last time I saw him was Tuesday. I can not believe he is not with us anymore and it's a pain. So again I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

Mr. Crespo has got to be my favorite art teacher ever. He was extremely nice, he would always give me such a good grade for that course. He would always put a smile on my face, even if it was a bad day for me. He would always be happy. I also remember a few times, me and my group would always take selfies in his class (not the best option lol) but it was funny. Recently, I heard that he has passed away. And when i heard that news, I was just crying and crying my life out. And that shows how much me and other people that loved him also missed him. Even though I'm in 8th grade and we don't have him anymore. Rest in peace Mr. Crespo, you will ALWAYS be missed, remembered and loved!!

Mr. Crespo was the happiest guy I've probably ever met. He truly was a good man, even though he wanted to act strict in front of kids he hadn't taught. He taught me only last year, yet he had never missed a day without saying hi to me and giving me a fist bump and or high five. Not only did he teach me and many others a ton about art, yet he also taught me courage and happiness. He was kind to so many, and I and many others will be thinking about him.
I made two poster boards with my friend to put in front of his room with my friend Katelyn. One for people to come and write quotes that he's said if they've had the honor to know him as not just a teacher, but a friend, and the other to write positive notes as well as their names to show that he has touched the lives of many. He would give up his lunch period for me and quite a few others, and we would sit together and talk or he would put a movie on. He was an amazing teacher, as well as an amazing friend. Rest In Peace, Mr. Crespo. :(

He would give out prizes to winning groups in art, but he always made sure that we all got a prize. He always made sure no one was left out of anything. He would always go out of the way just to make his students happy. He would take time out of his own lunch just so we could stay and watch movies. He cared about each and every person. Whether it be a teacher or student. Every time I walked into school, I would be so excited to see Mr.Crespo. He wasn't just a teacher, he was a friend to everyone too. Mr.Crespo was my Art teacher, its awful to see him go.He had such a big heart. He did nothing but help us, teach us to express our feelings, he does not deserve this. Its hard to see someone who wants to see you succeed, had to go through this.He had a family , just like some of us.So memories i remember is when it came to group names , i chose i different name, while others did bulldogs, gucci-gang, i did unicorn loverz, my class stared at me like they were confused, he was telling me that hes a fellow unicorn, whe had our own symbol, i really miss how he made me smile, im so sorry for his pain. I give all my condolences to him and his family. I really am heartbroken to see him go. He wasn't just a teacher, he was a friend. A friend that that pushes you to the right direction. We shared so much laughter, i remember when he showed the class my school photo, i was so embarrassed, he told me theirs nothing to be embarrassed about , and made me feel better. When his former students, including myself found out about his passing we were heartbroken, not only because we lost an amazing teacher, but because his family lost a father, son, uncle, and grandfather. Jorge was a man of great impact. I had the honor of working with him at Yonkers Middle High School for the last sixteen years. His talent, wit, gentleness and dedication made him an exceptional teacher. Furthermore, his endless wealth of empathy made him an exceptional human being.
He offered sanctuary to all who struggled. His room was always filled with students seeking a safe haven at lunchtime. In the past, he housed all sorts of furry and scaled animals in the back of his classroom. He was renowned for an end of the year tradition of giving those well-cared for pets to students who he felt could benefit from the companionship and sense of responsibility. Those acts and words of kindness and encouragement flowed so easily from him.
We shared many laughs and deep philosophical conversations ranging from politics to students in need. I will truly miss this great man. He will not be forgotten. My deepest condolences go out to his family.
Sincerely,
Edmond Byrne

Mr. Crespo was the light of my days when i was down. In Art, our group called J.A.D.E called him sensei Crespo, for he was the teacher, and in return, he would call us the grasshoppers. My group would always rush to his room after we had lunch, just to try to beat him to his class. every day we had him, we would tel him a joke. It started after we were upset one day, and he cheered JADE up with a joke. We would try to make the jokes corny and adorable, just to make him laugh or smile, and he had started to ask us for the jokes every time the period had started before everyone had arrived. When we arrived for his class before the bell, most of us would start fooling around, and he would catch us, saying," Stop running little grasshoppers!" He would open the door and one person in our group(Liz), would always try to rush into her seat first, usually crashing into it or falling. He would then jokingly insult us by calling us crickets. His class would be the time that I would actually get up and speak to the people i know, or even considered as a friend, because i believe i have no right to have a friend, that it would be selfish. He would console me, saying that i did have friends and that he was one of them, and it made me more than happy. He would help me with my problems after i had gotten into a recent problem with my friends and gave me advice. I took it and its turning out to be what they had needed, sensei Crespo was a wise man, and no one can argue. Another part i had loved about Crespo was attendance. he would always pronounce my first name right, then fool around with my last name, or repeat it multiple times to irritate me, finding it hilarious. One thing i will never forget, however, would be making the banner for Field Day in his class. His class would be like a second home, school being the first. We would make idiotic chants and he would finish it off with "YAY' and we would laugh. Sensei made the idea for the orange bulldogs, which than became our actual mascot. We had orange shirts, and I had drew a Pegasus and a CHB sign with his ideas and creativity, his sketches and drawings. I had loved spending time there, and we would fool around sometimes, chatting, joking, and playing. The most memorable time? Liz in our group had made a Wall-E for the buggy. Numerous times we had asked him for assistance in making it travel. and we had succeeded, sure that we wouldn't have unless Crespo had helped us. My most best wishes to Mr. Crespo in heaven and my condolences to his family.

I don't even know where to start. The loss that you have been forced to suffer is a great one, which is an under statement. I can not describe to you how much of a great person Mr. Crespo was. We (my whole class and I) loved going to his classroom and being with him. He'd always make us happy and always got a laugh out of us. I remember at the end of the year he put on this very low budget horror movies. Back then i didn't thunk much of it but now i think he did that on purpose. He knew we'd laugh at how terrible the movies were. For example, there was one were a bunch of kids sat in a cemetery and all the sudden a very low quality animated zombie cat or dog chased them around. I remember one movie that was actually really good, and it was about this husband and wife that were being hunted down by this group of kids that lived in the sewer. I know it sounds corny and cheesy but it was a good movie. Only probably was it was in a different language and we needed subtitles. He'd also call me "Lorenzo" instead of Lawrence, which i liked. Me and my friends would have such a great time in his class, and we wouldn't leave with at least laughing once. Also, in the beginning of the year he'd give candy out to the three groups that had the most amount of dojo points. However, towards the end of the year he decided that he'd give candy to everyone as long as we had enough time left. He also taught me how to correctly use a hot glue gun and not burn myself. In his class it was always a fun time, no matter what you were doing. It didn't matter if you were doing a huge project or if maybe it was just a bad day, it was always fun in his class. That is why I will deeply miss the company and happiness that Crespo brought. And i can't imagine how you (most likely the family) are feeling. But i just want you to know, no matter how bad it may seem, it will always, and i mean ALWAYS get better. I hope you guys never have to deal with anything as terrible as this again, and i wish anyone reading this the best.
Sincerely, Lawrence Byrnes

Mr. Crespo was a great man, who was very bright thought mainly of others, and by any means was NEVER selfish. When I told him about one of my relatives weren't alive, he understood, and he gave me the support that i probably needed without me even asking at all. He tried to understand other people's culture, and if he knew it was one of your religious days, he would help you with it. He was a very patient man, and he was very calm, and he always wanted people to do the right thing no matter what. That was all he truly expected, and he did this to all of us, to discipline us all, and make us much mature, just in general. I miss him on this day, and i hope that he can now see his wife in heaven, where anyone can tell he belongs. May only great things occur to his family now.

I had Mr. Crespo last year for art class. I remember him doing the most fun activities and art projects. He was always organized and respectful. His kind and gentle personality always touched me. His fun time doing things at lunch in the classroom I always enjoyed. I always came in his classroom thinking, "Yay, I get to do art with Mr. Crespo!" He was always asking me how I was doing. He was so kind it seemed impossible for anyone not to like him. I gave and showed him artwork, and he gave me art instructions and projects in return unconditionally. At the end of the year, I started a hobby of poetry. He was always asking me, "Have you got any new poems?" He always cared for everyone, not just certain people. He cared about their lives, their troubles, and their dreams in a compassionate way. His smile was ever so classic and memorable. I wish I saw him more this year, being that I don't have him. He was a good friend of mine, and everyone can say the same for themselves, because it's true. He was a friend of everyone.

Last year having Mr. Crespo as an art teacher was the most amazing experience ever. Every day he has brightened up my day with no effort and made my life at school a much more happier time. My face was always plastered with a smile. He was like no other and it seems that god had given us a gift for he was one of the greatest people i have ever known. Life without him seems harsh as my heart is heavy with sadness seeing as he is gone. I wish for the best as he is in heaven overlooking you as your guardian angel.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to the family of one of the most genuine and kind person that has come into my life in my 13 years on this Earth. Mr. Crespo was truly an inspiration to all that had the pleasure of knowing him. Last year, after having many bad days due to stress or anything else going on in my life, going to Mr. Crespos class at the end of everyday was a light at the end of the tunnel. Mr. Crespo always knew when something wasnt right with one of his students and did the very best he could to fix it. His class filled me with pure joyness, and a new passion for art. I, as a student cannot fathom this loss of a teacher i admired so dearly and cannot imagine the pain his family is enduring. However, I wish the family of this amazing man the best and I send my deepest condolences.

I remember towards the end of the school year i was always upset in the morning. This was because during that time the World Cup was going on and i was always missing the morning games. Watching the world cup was important to me and Mr. Crespo saw that. In class he would project the morning game in class. He worked really hard to make his classroom a wonderful environment, and i am so glad i had the opportunity to be part of it.

I remember always coming to school early because of my brother, so instead of going into the arena i would go upstairs to Mr.Crespo's classroom and help set up the classroom for the morning. I would usually get there before he unlocked his room, so when he did arrive, he would greet me with a huge grin on his face and say "Hello Melania" (that isn't my name but he would call me that since i would sometimes call him by his first name...it was our inside joke). When it happened it didn't seem to relevant, but when i think back, it seems so significant.

I pray that he is resting peacefully in gods embrace and that god help his family through this great loss. It is never easy to lose a beloved family member.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Crespo at YMHS Field Day 2018, both my daughters had him as their art teacher (Cassandra Seecharran 2018) and (Rebecca Persaud 2017) .Mr. Crespo treated his students like his own children, with love, caring, encouragement, he was kind and gentle in his ways and always make time to help out his students. Myself and my two daughter are heartbroken as with all the lives he's touched, Heaven has a new angel now.
Rest In Peace Mr. Crespo, you will always in our hearts.

Mr. Crespo was one of the best teachers I ever had. He always cared for his students and always tried his best to make us happy and to ensure that we were having a good time in his class. I remember how he let our eighth grade class eat lunch in his room every day because there was no room in the cafeteria. He let us watch movies and play games every day. He’d even let us use his microwave or refrigerator if we ever needed to warm something up or keep something cold. For most of the year, I sat with Mr. Crespo and maybe another student at a table where we would eat lunch together. I remember him always waiting for me and the other student to eat together. We’d always crack jokes and gossip to each other. He made me feel very comfortable in his class, he was someone that the students were able to trust and talk to whenever we needed advice. I remember Mr. Crespo always joking about coming to eat dinner at one of my parents’ house because he’d always say that they both cook so well. He was always so sweet and nice to anyone that came to him. I’ll always remember those fun lunches in his class and the fact that even after I graduated middle school I’d always go back to visit him or to ask him if he’d let me use his microwave and he’d always say yes. Mr. Crespo was not only a great art teacher but he was a great mentor and friend to his students. Mr. Crespo was one of those people that always said hi to you in the hallways and was there when you needed to talk and I’m not sure if he ever realized how much that meant to his students. It was very thoughtful and sweet of him and I’m glad to be able to call him a teacher and a mentor. Thank you for everything you did and for your kindness, I’ll always remember you in my heart.

Mr. Crespo was my art teacher when I was in 7th grade, 2014. I was the only kid in my class who ate gluten-free, and my mom was too poor to afford snacks that I could eat so he always brought me Gluten Free cookies to eat during his class. I personally never liked art, I couldn’t draw. I would always talk about how horrible I was, but he went above and beyond to make sure that I knew that my work was amazing. Looking back, it was horrible, but he would
make sure that not a single student felt like they were a bad artist. Mr. Crespo made every student feel like they were an extraordinary artist whether it was from a simple Mother’s Day card to the Starry Night Oil Pastel Project. He was the kind of teacher you could gossip to, and even though he would never directly say how he felt, you knew what he meant by his looks. He was always there, whether you needed a confidence boost or a reality check. Despite that he was my teacher 4 years ago, he is always going to be in my heart. Thank you for teaching me that even if you think I’m not good at something, as long as you’re having fun, you’re amazing.

Dear Mr. Crespo,
You were one of the most wonderful teachers I ever had. You really loved art, and you made me love it too. When I would get bullied in school, you had my back. Somehow your class always brought me joy, even if I couldn't paint to save my life. I remember how you always used to play trendy music or Lost Tapes, and it always scared the heck out of me because, frankly, I was a huge wimp. Remember, how Brandon had you too, and was so scared that my parents had to write him a letter to let him skip out of watching them? Hearing that story really made me laugh, even if right after I couldn't sleep for a week because you played that French film Them, and yelped so loudly in class that people teased me about it for the whole week afterwards (even despite that, it's one of the most memorable and interesting films I've ever watched). Even despite all the frights, I always loved your class. It pushed me to try new things. It taught me to love art. It taught me to look at the bright side of things, and to try to talk to people more, and that the most important thing in art was to put your all into it, your soul. I regret seeing people watch those horror shows you were fascinated by after school, and not going. I regret not going to visit your class more, even though I always wanted to. I regret not asking more about how your newer classes were, because I wanted to ask if they begged you to play Harlem Shake like our class did. I think I've missed you for a long time Mr. Crespo, but because I was a wimp, and an idiot, it's only now that I've realized it. I miss showing you all my crazy t-shirts and ideas for my pieces, and the times you've laughed over how ridiculous I was. Or the time I showed up to school with a tissue still in my mouth because I had a tooth pulled out and didn't want to miss your class. Whatever you were looking for or wanted from this Earth, I hope you found it in the afterlife. If it's peace that you wanted, I hope everything is quiet there. And if it's too quiet for a guy who spent a life as an artist, I hope it is bustling with a million interesting things for you to make art out of to your content.
Love,
Amanda
