On Tuesday I was sad to learn of the passing of one of the good guys, Skip Slater ...a Member for as long as I can remember of the AUMC Family. If there is an entry for Good Guy in the Dictionary, Skip’s name and picture would be there. Truly a Gentle Man/Gentleman in every sense.
Growing up I knew him as Mr. Slater and his wife as Mrs. Slater. They taught Sunday School a year or more and Mr. Slater was tasked with carrying me way upstairs in the uppermost room at the Church...he never seemed to mind or made me feel badly.
Went off to college and after Graduation I returned home, never to leave like most college kids. With my staying I became an active adult member of AUMC. Mrs. Slater would in short time become Heidi but Mr. Slater took much longer to be addressed as Skip ...at least directly to his face. Was much easier to refer to him as Skip than call him that directly. Eventually I did “graduate” to addressing him as Skip ...and I actually don’t think he minded.
While sadly our Church building closed its doors in 2012, happily the family bonds remained.
May Heidi, Paul, Peter, Philp and all the family know how much in high regard Mr. Skip Slater was held by me and many others.
