Maria Hadala, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2019 at the age of 62 after a strong and courageous battle with glioblastoma. She was born on July 24, 1957 to the late Nicholas and Connie DeRosa Casamassa. Maria graduated from St. Denis School, Maria Regina High School, Manhattan College and Iona College. This past June she completed her 40th year of teaching, the last 28 years at The Enrico Fermi School as a Physical Education teacher, as well as the school's YFT Union Representative for many years. In 2014, Maria was named Teacher of the Year by Mayor Michael Spano. In addition, she was named Bowling Coach of the Year in 2014, 2015 and 2017. Maria was an avid bowler at a very young age, starting with the Junior Bowler League at Lincoln Park Lanes right up until this past May at Homefield Bowl. She bowled in various leagues throughout Westchester County over the past 55 years and was a former member of WASA. She had also qualified and bowled in the PBA U.S. Open in Indianapolis in 1996. Every year Maria and her sister, Anne (Mimi), enjoyed decorating their home for Halloween. They would attract over 1,700 trick or treaters, giving out a variety of treats, many of which were homemade. They also enjoyed going to the Empire City Casino together and made many friends there as well. On April 12, 1986 Maria married Stephen Hadala at St. Denis Church. He predeceased her in 2007. Maria is survived by her devoted sister, Anne (Mimi) Casamassa, her "high school sisters": Carolyn D'Armiento, Sheryl McCafferty and Alicia Parrish, along with her special friends who were her partners in education: Rhonda Arezza, Linda Buttacavoli, Dianne Ellis, Joan Llenin, Robin McSpedon, Diana Mirza, Rita Riehman, Kathy Simoes and Jen Yedowitz.
