I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Al Moncada. Al was my preceptor as a brand new nurse in the ER nearly 25 years ago at St John's. So many times I have thought about Al over the years and been grateful for his sense of humor, team spirit, clinical skill and his unique way of explaining things. His words are in my head every time I start an IV or have to explain how to start one to someone who is just learning (it's just like landing a plane, Nance...). I can remember like yesterday him talking about Mrs. Al (Jan) and muscle cat. I am so sorry for your loss. He touched the lives of so many patients and coworkers.

I offer my condolences to Al's family. I have fond memories of him
including those of a great time we had fishing together up in Harriman, NY.
We shared both ethnic and family values alike and I am proud to have called him
my friend.
R.I.P., Buddy.

I was so sorry to hear of Al's passing and that of his wife, Jan.
I met Al about twenty five years ago--and while he "ruffled some feathers" with his straight talk at times--I had an abiding respect for him, his service in Vietnam and for his dedication as a medical professional. We were peers and had a bond of shared history and values.
After 9-11, he brought his nurse-consciousness into church rooms where we prayed and he exalted us all to take care of ourselves, to be brave and to reach out to each other when needed.
I pray that his family knows what he meant to many and that he will not be forgotten.
Blessings as well to Jada.

My sincere condolences to the family of Al. I worked with Al for many years at Montefiore hospital Emergency Room. Excellent nurse who was like able with a great sense of humor always making us laugh with his funny jokes. Very witty and say what he thinks without any filters. Although he retired he often showed up in the ED for spontaneous visits just wanting to catch up and talk. It was always a pleasure to see him with his unique personality. You will be missed RIP AL

My sincere condolences to Al ‘s family. I met Al at St. John’s hospital while I was a nursing student. I teamed up with him to shadow him in the ER. He helped me with my care plans and we became friends. I convinced him to apply to Montefiore ER and the rest was history. Last time I saw Al was several months ago, he was in the ER and we shared some laughs. His wife Jan a super star! Heaven just gained to great souls. RIP my friend. Eileen Tierney

My sincerest condolences to you and yours. I knew Al when he worked at Montefiore ER. He was such a scrappy man with his quick wit and sometimea satirical way. He always called it as he saw it, a dutiful and knowledgeable nurse. I will miss him so much. One memorable story I have of him was when he told one of the nurses complaining of the work load in the ED that day, "get off the cross, we need the wood". RIP Al
