Alfonso (Al) Moncada passed away Sunday April 12, just two weeks before his 70th birthday. Al was born in Brooklyn NY on April 27th to Alfonso Moncada and Rosaria Bracco. Al is predeceased by his beloved wife of 27 years Jan, who passed just 8 days prior. They lived in Crestwood NY.
Al served in the Airforce during Vietnam as an Aeronautical engineer. After his service, Al worked as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Rooms of St. John's Riverside Hospital and Montefiore Medical Center's Moses Division. He is survived by his step-children Tom, Mary and Mike Massey, his sister Chris (Allen) Laufer, his nieces Kayla and Rebecca and his nephew Josh.
Al was an avid musician and played the bass. He loved riding his bike, fishing, and his 4 pound Yorkie, Jada. Al graduated from Cochran School of Nursing in Yonkers and attended John Jay High School in Brooklyn. He will be remembered for his huge heart and kind smile.
A celebration of Al's life will be held at a later date. In memory of Al, donations can be made to "Heroes Among Us" an organization committed to supporting and providing hope to veterans by offering assistance for their everyday needs.
