The Reverend April Lewis and I recently heard of the sad news of Mrs. Julia B. Jefferson’s passing and wanted to extend our deepest condolences to the entire family, the St. Francis A.M.E. Zion congregation and the Mount Kisco community. The Psalmist David said in Psalm 27:4 “ One thing ask of the Lord , this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” When I reflect about Mother Jefferson as she was affectionately known to us both, I think of someone who enjoyed being in the presence of God, and the church was a place that offered great comfort and solace in a world of great challenges and trails. Heave is the goal of every believer, and while one cannot ever be “sorry” that someone is there, it is certainly understandable to miss the close relationship the existed while here on this earth. I can image Mother Jefferson saying don’t you believe the report that I’m dead, please know that I’m more alive than ever, yes I’ve gone up a yonder to a higher place from a old clay tenement into a house that is immortal; a body that death cannot touch, that sin cannot taint, a body fashioned like unto his glorious body. That which is born of the flesh may die. That which is born of the Spirit will life forever.
I want to encourage you to keep your faith and trust God during this season. May God continue to give you his peace and comfort now and it the coming days.
In Christ
Reverends Earl and April Lewis
