Obituary of Mario S. Giorgio

Mario S. Giorgio 12/31/1928 – 3/7/2022 Mario S. Giorgio passed away on March 7, 2022 after a brief illness. He was 93. Born in the Bronx to Louis and Antoinette (nee Vitulli) Giorgio he grew up on Bailey Avenue and attended Samuel Gompers High School. We are told that he left one class shy of completion and later went on to complete his GED. He then joined the Army, stationed in Georgia in a communications division. He spoke fondly of his time in the military – it seemed to be one of the high points in his life. After returning to the Bronx he took a position with Otis Elevator in Yonkers, where he met many lifelong friends including his wife of 51 years Eleanor "Lolly" Stefanik, another high point for sure. Mario and Lolly settled in Yonkers where over many years they built a warm, loving, and caring home and raised two children. Mario was a hard-working man oftentimes holding down two or three jobs to provide for his family. He was also a man of deep, unwavering faith. He sang in the church choir, served as a Eucharistic minister, and helped with countless church activities. He was a coach and President of the Colts Youth Club in Yonkers for decades. He coached so many children over the years that it was difficult to go anywhere without hearing someone cry out "Hey, Coach Mario!" He was a caring, compassionate man that treasured family, friends, and interpersonal relationships more than anything. He had a gift with people and always tried to bring a smile to someone's face. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is predeceased by his wife Eleanor "Lolly" Stefanik. He is survived by his two sons Mario (Carla) and Vincent (Jennifer), and two grandchildren Vincent and Mario who were the loves and lights of his life. Rest easy Pop, Papa G, Pop Pop, Popadopolus…until we meet again. We love you and will miss you always.
