Ilma Almeade Reubel Adams
Born: August 23, 1925
Died: March 26, 2022
Ilma Almeade Reubel Adams, age 96, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2022 in Yonkers, NY. Ilma was born on August 23, 1925 to her parents Jerome Reubel and Catherine Hunt on the island of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. Her early childhood was spent in St. Croix with her parents, grandparents, siblings, extended family, and friends.
She moved to New York in her late teens. In 1946, Ilma married Lucien Adams, who was also born in St. Croix. They were blessed with four children – three daughters and one son.
In 1966, Ilma and Lucien moved backed to their native home of St. Croix with their two youngest children. Ilma worked in several jobs, ending with a position performing collection activities at Chase Manhattan Bank. She retired from the bank in 1990.
Ilma was a devout Catholic and a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in St. Croix. She supported the Girls Scouts when her youngest daughter was a Girl Scout by participating in fund raising and chaperoning activities. She loved her family and friends, and was always willing to offer comfort and support. She was instrumental in providing needed care to her mother, husband, and eldest sister until their deaths. She always looked forward to her annual vacations with her daughter, traveling to places including Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and several islands in the Caribbean.
In 2015, Ilma moved to New York to live with her two eldest daughters. She became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Yonkers, New York. Until her death on March 26, 2022, Ilma was most happy enjoying the simple things in life – attending church masses, watching old television westerns, and participating in family meal time, "window shopping", and car rides.
Ilma was preceded in death by her parents Catherine Hunt and Jerome Reubel; brother Joseph Reubel; sisters Helen Benjamin, Gloria Bryan, and Agatha Reubel; and husband Lucien Adams.
She is survived by her children Irma Green, Emlyn Adams, Kevin Adams, and Ada Adams; three grandchildren Bjana Taylor, Kevin Adams, and Deana Adams; great granddaughter Liana Blanco; and sister Theresa Reubel. Other survivors include in-laws, nephews, nieces, other family members, and friends, including the BeGraff family.
