Karen Ann (Morgan) Blackstone, MD passed away after a brief illness on April 25, 2023 at her home in Bethesda, Maryland.  Karen was born on November 19, 1968 in New York City and raised in Hawthorne, New York.  She attended Holy Rosary School, graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1986 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1990.  She received her doctor of medicine from SUNY, Stony Brook in 1995 and completed her medical residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
While in Boston, Karen met Craig Blackstone, MD.  They married on May 12, 2001 and settled in Bethesda, Maryland where they were raising their three children: Katherine, Emily and Michael.  She was a geriatrician for over 20 years with the Washington DC Veterans Administration Medical Center and was the Director of Palliative Care and Acting Chief of Geriatrics.  Karen was also an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Care at George Washington University. Karen spent her life caring for others, whether in her professional life as a talented doctor or in her personal life as a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend.  Her unwavering kindness and joyful outlook on life lifted the spirits of those fortunate to know her.  Karen cherished time with family and friends.  She could always be found cheering her children at their gymnastics events, ballet performances and rugby matches.  She enjoyed traveling, most recently celebrating her daughters’ high school graduation with a trip to Costa Rica and joining her brother and his family on a graduation trip for his children to Ireland.  Karen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.  She is survived by her husband Craig, their three children:  Katherine (19), Emily (19) and Michael (16), her parents, Robert and Rosemary Morgan, her brother Ed Morgan, wife Tracey, and their children, Carter and Kaiden, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
