Hi. I'm Justin Hornburg and Rich was my boss for a short period of time at MetLife in 1990-1991. I loved working for and with Rich; he was a great mentor and just a great guy. I just heard today (8/18/2023) about his passing and I'm very sad about it.

Rich became my brother-in-law in February 1998? Maybe 1997. He and Chris flew from NY to Bakersfield for our wedding. I liked them both immediately and soon loved them.
Even though they lived across the country from us, we managed to get together several times. And in between would facetime.
Shortly after Mike and I were married we flew to NY to visit and then took a car trip all the way to Bar Harbor, ME where they treated us to a stay at their favorite B & B Greycote Inn as a weddings gift. We hiked in Acadia National Park and shopped in town. Oh and on the way to Maine we stopped at the Roosevelt Presidential Library.
In following years we were their guests in Nantucket, guests for family Thanksgiving in their home, and shared their joy in the birth of Thomas.
They came to California several times too after Thomas was born. So even though there was great physical distance the love of family pulled us together many times. He was here for Mike’s birthday celebration in March this year- my last time to see him.
Most recently Rich texted photos he took during their trip to Portugal. He was having a wonderful time.
A few weeks ago Rich called and he & Mike did some reminiscing about their days in Bakersfield.
I will miss his beautiful smile and sweet spirit always.

Rich was my brother in law but he was really just MY BROTHER. He was always there for me, encouraging me to live my life to the fullest in whatever I endeavored. He was in my life during my formative years from 8 years old to 25. He made me laugh and paid attention to me, which made me feel important. He had such a great smile. I loved his lasagna!!!! My condolences to his family and friends. I will never forget the impact he had on my life. I love you Richerdo. (My nickname for him)

Rich worked for me for several years in the late nineties when I was the Chief Actuary for Individual Life and Annuities at Metlife. He was an extremely competent actuary with a great deal of dedication to his job. More importantly, he was one of the nicest guys I ever met.
My sincere condolences to the family.
