Obituary of Maria N. Custodio

On January 26, 2024, surrounded by her children, our beloved mother Maria left us and is now resting peacefully in the Lord's arms. Mom was born April 14, 1932 in Barcelos, Portugal to the late Francisco Bogas and Deolinda de Araujo. She was one of 9 brothers and sisters, and was the last surviving sibling of that Bogas generation. She immigrated to the United States on June 29, 1976 along with her husband, the late Guilherme Neto Custodio and her children, Luis and Teresa. They settled in Yonkers, New York and became a staple in the local Portuguese community, frequently contributing and participating in activities at the Portuguese American Community Center and as parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Maria was a devoted and loving mother to her children Luis (Teresa) and Teresa Santos (John) to whom she instilled strong family values and principles. In addition to her children, Maria is survived by her grandchildren who she adored and were very much the centerpiece of her life, Jonathan (Carly), Matthew (Alana), Marc and Nicholas. She was also blessed with two great granddaughters, her adorable "Lindinhas", Leona and Josephine. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces. A hard and committed worker all her life, she loved cooking, helping family and friends, and praying, giving her dedication to God. She also enjoyed traveling to Portugal to reunite with family and friends, and spending time at her home in Cascais. We will miss our amazing "Querida Mãe" every day and she will remain forever in all our hearts.
