Obituary of Glenda Cox
Please share a memory of Glenda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glenda Louisa Cox (nee Scott) was born on December 10, 1947 in the most southerly island of the West Indies - Trinidad and Tobago.
She was the fourth of nine children born to Herman Scott and Clementina Scott. Her siblings consisted of three brothers - Herman Scott Junior (deceased), James Scott, and Michael Scott and five sisters - Shirley Fatade (deceased), Alice Scott (deceased), Angela Joachim, Marion Scott-John, and Germaine Scott.
At a young age, Glenda attended the Rose Hill Roman Catholic Primary School and later on, the Osmond Girls' High School where crafting was her passion and nursing was her goal. She loved crafting so much, that her father, Herman Scott Senior sent her to a crafting specialist - Ms. Murphy to learn different types of crafts.
Glenda loved to socialize with her friends, neighbours and sisters. It was especially one of her joys to gather with them in the yard at her home on a Sunday and sing and dance to the latest songs, the lyrics to which they had cut out from the newspapers. One popular song that they loved to have dance offs to was "The Twist".
As much as Glenda loved to dance, her father often jokingly told her that she walked like a duck, which led to her childhood nickname of "Ducky".
When Glenda left High School, she was offered the opportunity to pursue nursing at a hospital in the United Kingdom. However, she met the love of her life, a dashing young man named Arnold Cox and things soon changed.
Glenda met Arnold during one of her visits to her Uncle Eli's house in Eastern Quarry, Laventille. Arnold lived in the same neighborhood and soon, beautiful Glenda fell in love with handsome Arnold. Her friend Leah recently recalled that Glenda would sometimes write love letters to Arnold, since in those days immediate or frequent contact was not always possible. The lovebirds were married on August 30, 1969 and soon after, they migrated to the United States of America to seek better opportunities. Their union produced three wonderful children - Anderson Cox, Clifford Cox, and Keisha Cox, eight grandchildren - Elijah Cox, Christopher Cox, Cassidy Cox, Courtney Cox, TyKeisha Jenkins, Andy Francis, Oneil Powell, and Karon Jessamy, and a great grandson, Andy Francis Jr.
Glenda worked as a nursing assistant at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers for over 30 years before retiring and relocating to South Carolina with her husband, Arnold. Glenda enjoyed and was skilled at crocheting and needlepoint, hobbies she had picked up in childhood. She was known for making blankets to welcome the arrival of the babies of her friends and family. Glenda also enjoyed cooking, dancing, watching game shows, doing word searches, shopping, and trips to Atlantic City. She was also admired for her fashion sense and beautifully done nails. But most importantly, Glenda was known by all to be a caring and kind person. She rarely raised her voice or argued with anyone and often went to great lengths to make sure that those that she loved were happy and had what they needed.
She will be affectionately remembered by her husband of 55 years, three children, two daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren, great grandson, two remaining brothers, three remaining sisters, nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and all of her friends.
May her soul rest in peace and may her memory forever be a blessing.
