Maria A. Rodriguez, 87, passed away on Saturday, January 22nd, 2011 in St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by her daughters. She was the beloved mother of Rafaela Rodriguez, Victor Roman, Altagracia Rodriguez, Virgen M. Rodriguez, Julio C. Rodriguez, Evangelina Rodriguez, Milagros Rodriguez, Manuel Rodriguez, and Ramona Rodriguez. The caring grandmother and great-grandmother of over 50 children, Maria - fondly known throughout Yonkers as Mam - was loved by all who met her.
Maria was born on September 3, 1923 in Santiago, Dominican Republic and migrated to the United States in 1965. She remained a loyal resident of Yonkers, NY for the rest of her life, working for 20 years to bring all of her children to New York to join her. Upon her retirement, Maria spent her days helping to raise her grandchildren and playing Bingo, a favorite pastime. Maria will be remembered as a giving spirit and loving soul.
Visiting will be held at the Sinatra Funeral Home, 601 Yonkers Avenue on Thursday from 1pm-3pm and 5pm-9pm. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 11:00am at Saint Mary's Church, 103 South Broadway. The Interment will be held at Oakland Cemetery, 2 Saw Mill River Rd (corner of Ashburton Avenue), Yonkers, NY.
